How do I know when second crack starts?
Second crack is usually a faster, sharper crackling sound than first crack, often paired with more smoke and surface oils beginning to appear. If you are new, approach it cautiously because the coffee can move from dark to burnt quickly.
What to Check First
Listen for a lighter, quicker crackle after first crack ends.
Watch for increased smoke and roast aroma changes.
Plan your drop point before second crack begins.
