Best Milk Frother for Latte Art
Frother types and texture limits for pouring latte art at home.
Electric and manual frothers compared on what their manuals say about oat drinks, heating, capacity and cleaning.
Part of our best milk frother for latte art guide. This comparison was researched from manufacturer manuals, product pages and published documentation; we did not test these frothers hands-on. For which oat milk carton to buy, see best oat milk for frothing.
The best milk frother for oat milk is one whose manufacturer documents plant-milk use, heats the drink in the same jug, and has parts you can put in the dishwasher. The Nespresso Aeroccino 4 meets all three on paper; the other options trade one of those points for capacity or price.
| Frother | Oat milk guidance | Heating and capacity | Cleanup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nespresso Aeroccino 4 | Manual permits oat, soy and almond drink | Heats; 120 ml foam max, 240 ml hot milk max | Dishwasher resistant except base, max 70 °C |
| Nespresso Barista Recipe Maker | Vegetable milk allowed; froth "not guaranteed" | Heats; 100 to 250 ml fill range | Jug, lid, seal and whisk dishwasher safe, max 70 °C |
| Breville Milk Cafe BMF600 | No plant-milk statement on product page | Induction heating, temperature dial, latte and cappuccino discs | Jug is dishwasher safe |
| Handheld whisk or manual pump | Varies by model | No built-in heating on most models | Rinse the whisk or plunger right after use |
Frother manufacturers rarely promise oat milk results. The Nespresso Aeroccino 4 manual says oat drink can be used and that froth volume depends on the beverage and its temperature. It recommends refrigerated milk at about 4 to 6 °C for the best foam. The same manual warns that plant-based beverages contain allergens such as soy, almond and gluten, and suggests a separate device for households with milk allergy.
Because formulation varies by carton, a frother only sets the ceiling. Barista-style oat drinks are made for foaming; the differences are covered in barista edition vs regular oat milk. Once you have picked a frother, see which cartons foam best in it in our guide to the best oat milk for electric frothers.
The Nespresso Aeroccino 4 is the most explicit oat-milk option in this comparison, since its user manual names oat drink as a permitted ingredient. The jug has two fill lines: a "Max foam" line at 120 ml for hot and cold froth, and a "Max milk" line at 240 ml for hot milk only. All components except the base are dishwasher resistant up to 70 °C. The small foam capacity suits one or two drinks at a time.
The Nespresso Barista Recipe Maker takes more milk than the Aeroccino 4, with MIN, intermediate and MAX lines at 100, 150 and 250 ml according to its user manual. That manual also says vegetable milk can be used but froth is not guaranteed, so oat milk owners should expect results to vary by brand. The jug, lid, seal and whisk can go in the dishwasher at no more than 70 °C.
The Breville Milk Cafe BMF600 uses induction heating, a temperature selection dial, and separate latte and cappuccino frothing discs, according to Breville's product page. Breville lists the jug as dishwasher safe. Breville's page does not mention oat or other plant milks, so the Milk Cafe is a larger-batch choice with no documented oat milk guidance.
Handheld whisk frothers and manual pump frothers can aerate oat milk, but most models do not heat it. For a hot oat milk latte, warm the oat milk first on the stove or in a microwave-safe vessel, then froth. These tools cost less and store easily; the trade-off is an extra step and less repeatable heat. The frothing without a steam wand guide covers the technique.
If you own an espresso machine, a steam wand gives more control over oat milk; see the oat milk steaming masterclass.
For oat milk, the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 is the clearest documented choice because its manual explicitly permits oat drink and gives separate foam (120 ml) and hot milk (240 ml) fill limits. The Breville Milk Cafe suits larger batches and induction heating, but Breville's product page does not mention plant milk.
Yes. The Nespresso Aeroccino 4 manual states that soy, almond or oat drink can be used, and warns that plant-based beverages contain allergens including gluten. Froth volume depends on the drink used and its temperature.
The Nespresso Barista Recipe Maker manual lists vegetable milk as usable but states that milk froth is not guaranteed with it, so oat milk results depend on the carton.
A handheld whisk frother aerates oat milk but does not heat it, so hot drinks need a separate heating step before frothing.
